Robert Eldridge McMurtry, Sr., age 85, of Warsaw, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, at his home.  He was born on June 21, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of George E. and Marie May White McMurtry.

He grew up in the Kansas City area and on October 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Anna J. Kilgore in Kansas City.  They made their home in the intercity until 1951 when they moved to California.  While living in California, Bob worked as a machinist for several aircraft companies.  They moved back to the intercity of Kansas City in 1959 moving to Warsaw in August of 1971. 
He had worked for Western Auto of Warsaw, Rival Manufacturing Plant in Sedalia and the Valley Bait and Tackle Shop in Warsaw.  He then began his employment with the Truman State Park where he worked for almost 15 years before his retirement.  After he retired he worked for Long Shoals Marina.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially bow hunting.  He had an arrowhead collection and loved to go mushroom hunting.  He was a self-taught musician and enjoyed playing the piano and singing.  He also had written several gospel songs.

He was a member of the Light House Pentecostal Church of Warsaw. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, William McMurtry, a sister, Juanita Blackburn and a daughter-in-law, Nanca Gatliff McMurtry.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, of the home, one son, Robert E. McMurtry, Jr., of Warsaw, four daughters, Sheila Ann McMurtry, and her life long companion, Karl Cannon of Sedalia, Cynthia Lynn Dickey, and her husband, Ronnie, of Warsaw, Marion Renee Roberts of Warsaw and Lisa Joy Felicione, and her husband, Nick, of Warsaw, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Reser Funeral Home, with Pastor Nick Womble officiating.  Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery, Warsaw.  Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, prior to the services at the funeral home.  Arrangements entrusted to the care of Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO.
