Penhook……….Lillie Matherly Adkins, age 83 of 5725 #3, Lot 2 Smith Mtn. Rd., Penhook died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at her residence.
Born March 24, 1931 in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Paul Matherly and Arebell Hammock Matherly. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Houston Adkins and one brother Charlie Matherly. Mrs. Adkins was a member of Liberty Christian Church, a member of the Cool Branch Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and she retired from DuPont after over 30 years of service. She loved to crochet, photography, and also enjoyed traveling and worked with Holiday Travel.
She is survived by two sons, Johnnie Adkins of Sandy Level, Mike Adkins and wife, Martha of Gretna; three daughters, Donna Adkins of Rocky Mount, Dinah Kay Hopkins and husband, William of Bassett, and Tammy Adkins of Lakebay, WA.; one brother, Jack Matherly of FL.; two sisters, Lucy Franklin of Martinsville and Bertha Craig of Axton; and 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 5, 2014 at Liberty Christian Church by Rev. Dr. Paul Stone and Chaplain Rick Poland. Burial will follow at Highland Burial Park in Danville.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
