Archie Clifford Cothren 71 passed away early Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Union Grove Baptist Church with Pastors Ken Harris, T.W. Bailey and Tracy Webb. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held prior to the service from 2 to 4 PM at the church.

Archie was born in Wilkes County on March 3, 1943. He served in the US Navy for seven years and in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company.

He is survived by his wife the love of his life Mary Alice Spicer Cothren; three daughters, Sherri Smith, Tracy (Flynt) Greenwood, Sharon (Roger) Hendrix; grandchildren, Brandon Smith, John Snow, Megan Bell, Aaron Hendrix and Missy Greenwood; one great-grandchild, Bella Vasquez; a brother, Jim (Georgia) Cothren; a sister, Carolyn (Sam) Ward; a special Aunt Ercell Wagoner; a very loving, caring and thoughtful nephew, Calvin (Cindy) Tharpe and son Will, several other nieces and nephews.

Archie and Mary loved working side by side happily together doing yard and garden work, they also loved to travel the US with their best friend Molly their schnauzer.

To our very special friends, Roy and Mary Holt, Sue Wall, Dale and Judy Johnston, Carlton and Jean Forrest, thank you so very much for always being there for us. To our loving and caring church family at Union Grove Baptist Church we love you and thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. To the doctors and nurse team that will always be remembered for all you done.

Thank you Dr. Martin Murphy, Dr. Gajendra Sigh and Gena Neal, RN. A wonderful hospice team at Kate B. Reynolds, Jayne Leonard, Melinda Farabee and Melissa Vaugh.

In lieu of flowers we are asking to make donations to Union Grove Baptist Church, 2295 Union Grove Rd., Lexington, NC 27295 or to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
