Violeta Obial Oncena (Iné, Mamachay) passed away on Wednesday after a valiant battle with leukemia. She touched many lives with her kind spirit and positive outlook on life.
Violeta was born in Baliwag, Bulacan, Philippines. She participated in competitive swimming in high school and college. She graduated from the University of the East in Manila, Philippines with a degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine and passed the subsequent board exams.    She and her family immigrated to the United States in 1968 where they lived in Chicago, Illinois. She became a U.S. citizen six years later. She and her family moved to Pittsburg in 1977.  She went back to school in 1985 and received her LVN license in 1986.
She was a devoted catholic and very dedicated to her parish where she was a eucharistic minister, a catechism teacher, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Altars Guild and a youth ministry leader.  She most enjoyed her favorite job as a full time Mamachay (Grandma). Her favorite pastime was taking photos of everyone at every event, documenting life.
