Julie Ellen Bretz, 61, died at Sierra Healthcare & Rehab Center in Denver, Colorado on April 24, 2014. She was born to the late John and Peg Bretz on December 6, 1952 in Neligh, Nebraska, and moved to Oshkosh, Nebraska soon after. In 1970 she graduated from Garden County High School.
Julie earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Northwestern University in 1974. She remained in Chicago, Illinois area where she worked in marketing research for Continental Bank, which has subsequently become JP Morgan Chase. She was named Vice President and worked at the bank for over 25 years. While working full-time, Julie earned her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management—Northwestern University in 1986 and subsequently taught Marketing part-time at Columbia College in Chicago.
While living in Evanston, IL Julie spent many years refurbishing an old Victorian home built in the 1860’s. Among the many creative outlets she enjoyed, most notably were the quilts she designed and sewed. She was also an avid reader and dog lover. In the 1990’s she began showing Otter Hounds who were her pride and joy.
Julie moved to Denver in 2001 after she retired from banking. In 2003 she moved into Sierra where she remained until her death.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, May 3, Sierra Rehab and Care Community, 1432 Depew Street, Lakewood, Colorado 80214.
