She spent time as a psychiatric nurse at Hampstead Hospital in Hampstead, NH and eventually retired from Portsmouth Hospital in Portsmouth, NH.

In her early retirement, Barbre was actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren. Later, at her home at St. George Village in Roswell, GA, Barbre was an active organizer and participant in her community prayer group. She was a constant and compassionate advocate for those in her community who could not speak for themselves. She was also an avid gardener, accomplished seamstress, cat fancier, dog lover and prolific reader.
