Easter, on the Holiest day of the year, Ruby Lee Skelton went to her Glory.
After a brief period of illness while at Anne Arundel Medical Center, April 20th , 2014 Ruby began her everlasting journey home.
Ruby Lee was the 1st born to Herbert and Dorothy Edwards on May 8th, 1931 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. She attended school at Dinwiddie Training Center. At a early age she accepted Christ as her personal savior at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. On July 10, 1948 she joined hands with her Late and devoted Husband Elijah Skelton, they celebrated 61 years together. From that Union six Children were born. Elijah and Ruby resided in their home in Cheverly, MD for many years until they later settled in Capitol Heights, MD.
Dignity, Gorgeous, Soft Spoken, Generous, Influential and a Faithful servant are a few words that describe Ruby. She was a very active and devoted Mother and grandmother, the Matriarch of our family. She enjoyed Traveling, Cooking and Shopping. After 30 years of service with various Agencies with the Federal Government, She retired from The Environmental Protection Agency.
Ruby loved her Church home which was The Sanctuary at Kingdom Square in Capitol Heights, MD. She was a member of the Golden Agers and also the Pastor’s Partners. One of the highlights of her spiritual experiences was traveling with the church to Jerusalem, as well as participating in various other activities. She could always be counted on to pray and share God’s word with those who crossed her path.
Ruby was preceding in death by her husband, Elijah Skelton and Eldest Son, Sherman Skelton. She leaves to cherish her memory; her devoted children Faye Mathieu (Kim), James Skelton, Wanda Noel, Constance Pettigrew (Kenneth), Jacqueline Jones (Robert), One Daughter-in-Law, Barbara Skelton. Her two Sisters: Gloria Wyatt of Baltimore, MD and Shirley Wynn (Floyd) of Dinwiddie, VA. Two Brothers, Herbert Edwards (Cassie) of Dinwiddie, VA and Hampton Edwards (Eileen) of Silver Spring, MD. Eleven grandchildren, 22 Great-grandchildren, 4 Great-great Grandchildren and a host of Nieces, Nephews and Friends.Services will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 25, 2014 at The Sanctuary of Kingdom Square 9033 Central Ave, Capitol Heights, MD with viewing at 10:00am and a final service in Virginia at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Petersburg Chapel-Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home 530 S. Sycamore St, Petersburg, VA. Burial will follow in the Dinwiddie Memorial Park Cemetery, Petersburg, VA.
