Elizabeth “Betty” Woodrow Boulden, 78, of Middletown, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Broadmeadow/Cadia Rehabilitation Center in Middletown.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, A. Ralph Woodrow, 2003, Rebecca Watkins Woodrow, 1995, and her husband, Arthur Boulden, Sr., in 1984.
She retired after 38 years as a crossing guard for New Castle County. She was one of the first crossing guards in New Castle County starting in the 1960’s for Brookside and Gallagher Elementary Schools. She was co-owner of A L Boulden and Sons since 1972, she had also worked for H&R Block in Middletown and was an Avon Representative for over 20 years. Betty worked as a bartender for the Bohemia Country Club near Hacks Point, MD and the old Pappy’s formerly of Middletown. Betty and her husband raised champion St. Bernard’s and was a member of the North East, MD St. Bernard Club and the St. Bernard Club of America, she was also a member of the Cecilton Seniors Club. She enjoyed spending summers in Hacks Point, MD., and was an avid boater in the upper Chesapeake Bay.
Betty was a member of St. Joseph’s RC Church in Middletown, and also attended St. Dennis RC Church in Galena, MD. She served as a Eucharist minister where she took communion to the sick and elderly.
She is survived by her daughter Diane (Kevin) Quinn of Kerrville, TX, her 3 sons; Arthur “Arty” (Linda) Boulden, Jr. of Galena, MD, Andrew (Karen) Boulden of Warwick, MD, and Allen Boulden of Galena, MD, grandchildren; Tanya Boulden, Kimberly Quinn, Sarah Reynolds, Scott Boulden, Amber Boulden, Shalyn Boulden, Jeffrey Boulden, Mariah Boulden, great grandchildren; Hailey Boulden, Miranda Reynolds, Mackenzie Reynolds, Brody Capel, Madison Phillips, Emma Reynolds and Austin Leary.
Betty is also survived by her sisters, Marie Cahall, Ann Stewart, and her brother Ralph Woodrow.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at St. Joseph RC Church, 371 E. Main St., Middletown, DE at 11 am. Visitation will be from 10-10:45 am prior to the service at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE. Interment will be at Old Bohemia Cemetery.
