Funeral service for Deacon Oliver Lee Black, Sr. who passed away whilein a local hospital on Thursday, April 10, 2014 will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Exciting Faith Alive Church, 5705 E. 32nd Avenue, Tampa, Florida with Pastor Antonio R. Hawkins, officiating. Military honors will follow. He will be interred at the Florida National Cemetery on Monday, April 21, 2014.
He leaves behind to treasure precious memories of him with: a loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Emma L. Black; 4 sons: Edward Lee Black (Marianna, Florida), Oliver (Stefeny) Black, James Black, Elisaha (Tameka) Black, all of Tampa, Fl; 7 daughters: Margaret Black Little, Mae Watts, Mary Ann (Eddie) Brickhouse, Versie (Douglas) Oliver, Emma Mitchell, Vennesa Black and Monica Anderson Black, all of Tampa, FL; grandchildren: Lucretia, Fevvie, Tasha and Silas Bryant, Audrey Lewis, Charles Watts, Darrian Watts, Leticia Jackson, CalvinMitchell, Shantay Snelling, Sherika Watts, Ashley Mitchell, Andrew Black, Yasmeen Black, Arnethia Black, Alicia Black, Dontae Rodriguez, Deanna Revere, Tiffany Williams, Lakisha Pore, Tony Pore, Marcus Jennings, Sylvia Jennings, Earletha Black, Sheena Black, Denise (Robert) Black, Rashad and Ricky Frederick, Moriah Anderson, Junelle Black, Aalyzah Black, Donte` Black, Elisaha Black, Ryan Johnson, George Smith, Greg Williams all of Tampa, Florida; one brother, Edward Black of Marianna, Fl; one sister, Susie Mae Black, Detroit, MI; brother-in- laws; Robert (Linda) Godwin, Thomas Godwin, Laredell (Louise) Godwin, Perry (Helen) Godwin. sister-In-Laws; Mildred (Robert) Godwin, Lilly Davis, all of Tampa, FL, Bessie Wilson of Atlanta, GA; his beloved Pastor Antonio R. Hawkins and his entire Exciting Faith Alive Church Family as well as a host of sorrowing great and great-great grandchildren, and other family and friends too numerous to name.
A native of Marianna, Florida Deacon Black received his high school diploma from the Jackson County School District. He later joined the United States Army and served his country for 8 years before receiving an honorable discharge. Deacon Black relocated to Tampa, Florida in 1969 and was employed as a Heave Crane Operator with the Steel Mill for many years before retiring. He was ordained as a Deacon by the late Rev. Moses Anglin at the New Mount Silla M.B. Church. Deacon Black was a founding and faithful member of Exciting Faith Alive Churchwhere he served faithfully as a Senior Deacon. He was also a member of the Adult and Mass Choir.
His viewing will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Church with the family receiving friends in the Church from 8:00 - 9:00 p.m.
