Betty was born Betty Meier May 12, 1917 in nearby Richardson, IL., the daughter of Richard and Meta Meier. The family soon after moved to Sycamore, where she was a lifelong resident. She married Hays Knodle on April 30, 1938 in Sycamore and was married to Hays for 53 years until his passing in 1991.
Betty joined Hays in their family business, Knodle’s Electric that Hays had founded in 1930. She worked side by side with her husband throughout their marriage. Besides keeping the financial records, she would sell anything from washers and dryers and televisions to bicycles to 78 rpm records during World War II. She did this in addition to being a wonderful mother to her two sons. Those closest to her remember her love for her family, generosity, sense of humor, respect for others.
She was a life time member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saint John in Sycamore.
She is survived by two sons, James (Susan) Knodle of Skokie, IL and Edward (Susan) Knodle of Plainfield, IL; three grandchildren, Patrick Knodle (Linh) of Phoenix, Arizona, Jason Knodle (Jessica) of Naperville, IL and Jennifer Kaplan (Alex) of Glencoe, IL. Also surviving are four loving great-grandchildren: Ashton, Hannah, Max and Alexis, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and eight brothers and sisters.
Her visitation will be on Tuesday, April 22nd from 9:00-11:00 AM at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John, 26555 Brickville Rd., Sycamore, with Rev. Robert Weinhold officiating. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM at the Church. Burial be at the Elmwood Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the church.
