Evelyn Ruth Hoeksema

Evelyn Hoeksema, age 97 of Imlay City, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Heatherton Place in Imlay City.  Evelyn Ruth Worrall was born July 19, 1916 in Falmouth Michigan.  She was a daughter of George and Lucy (Morton) Worrall.  She grew up in the Falmouth Michigan area; near Lake City.  Evelyn attended country school in Falmouth and went to Lake City for High School.  She met her future husband through the young  peoples groups that would meet in different churches near falmouth.  Evelyn and William Hoeksema were married June 30, 1937 in Cadillac, Michigan. Shortly after they married Bill and Evelyn moved to the Imlay City area. Evelyn worked for a while for Cole’s Cleaners in Imlay City doing alterations.  Evelyn  raised her family here in Imlay City.  Evelyn is a member of the Imlay City Christian Reformed Church; for a while Evelyn participated with the “Red Hat Society”  here in Imlay City. She enjoyed walking (she walked everywhere and most people could not keep up with her);  she enjoyed crafting (she loved to knit,  sew, and bake); and to play card  and dice games at the Senior Center with her lady friends.  She would bake cookies  and take them to  all the youngsters that lived at the Dan Drive Appartment Complex where she had lived. Evelyn is survived by her children:  Reva (& David) Horst of Kalamazoo, Gordon (& Barbara) Hoeksema of Clarkston,  Patricia (& Tim) Jenkins of Porte Vedra Beach Florida,  Gary (& Evelyn) Hoeksema of Imlay City, Linda Flowers of Lapeer, William {Bill} (& Janet) Hoeksema of Dover Florida;  by fourteen grandchildren; and by 18 great-grandchildren.  Evelyn is preceded in death by:   her husband: William;  a son-in-law: Thomas Flowers;  a grandson:  Jeff Hoeksema;  by sisters: Leona Woodward and Effie Blue; and by brothers:  Enos Worrall, Harry Worrall, Lloyd Worrall, and Vern Worrall.  A   “Celebration of Life”   will be held  11:30 am Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Muir Brothers Funeral  Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City.  The Reverend David Spoelma, pastor of the Imlay City Christian Reformed Church will officiate.    Burial will follow at  Imlay Township Cemetery.   The Hoeksema  family will be available for visiting  2-4 pm  and 6-8 pm Tuesday, April 15th  and 10 – 11:30 am Wednesday , April 16th. Those desiring to make memorial contributions should consider the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
