Kenneth Leroy Clark Sr.

U.S. Veteran

Winslow: Kenneth Leroy Clark Sr., 96, passed away at Patriot’s Place, Togus VA Center, on April 9, 2014, in the presence of a loving family. Ken was born in Smithfield on June 6, 1917 the son of Perley and Irene (Louck) Clark.

Ken enlisted in the United States Army on October 14, 1940, serving in the Pacific Theater, and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He was discharged on August 14, 1945 and married Naomi Cramp on September 10, 1945.

Always a worker, Ken held many jobs doing a wide range of tasks. Among others, he was employed by Bechard’s Garage in Waterville, Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville, and Camp Matoka in Oakland.

He was an avid New York Yankees fan. His only other hobby was working on the land, seemingly he received strength from the soil. He was happiest when he had a chainsaw, a rake, an axe, or a hoe in his hands.

Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by his siblings; Hildred, Harold, Frederick, Nancy, Ethelyn, Victor, and Alice.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Naomi Clark, his children Ken Jr. (Nancy), Perley (Chuck) Sasuclark , and Mrs. Barbara (Stephen) Pierce. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Ken was a patient at Patriot’s Place, Togus VA Center since 2010, The family would like to convey their deepest thanks to the medical staff and personnel there for the excellent care both Ken and the family received.

Friends are invited to visit 1:00-3:00 & 5:00-7:00 on Sunday April 13 at Wheeler Funeral Home 26 Church Street Oakland. Www.wheelerfh.com A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM on Monday April 14 in the Chapel at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Mount Vernon Road in Augusta. There will be a gathering of friends and family at Barbara and Stephen’s home at 310 Durham Rd in Vassalboro following the funeral.
