Woodrow Forde Jackson, affectionately known as “Boose”, 98, of Sycamore Towers, 128 South Sycamore Street, Petersburg, VA departed this earthly life on Thursday, April 3, 2014 to accept his eternal reward in Heaven with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Woodrow Forde Jackson was born on August 11, 1915 in Sussex County, VA to the late Richard and Susie Forde Jackson. He was happily married to the late Sarah Dancy Jackson until her untimely death in November 1969. He was a former member of The International Order of ODD Fellows, Stony Creek Chapter for many years until it dissolution and was an expert in repairing automobile engines and lawn mowers. He also loved singing and listing to gospel music. In 2012, he was recognized by the Galilee Baptist Church, Stony Creek, VA as the church Godfather.
Woodrow was a servant of God and began his Christian walk at the Hunting Quarter Baptist Church, Stony Creek, VA and served as a member for many years before moving his membership by letter to the Galilee Baptist Church, Stony Creek, VA. He was always active in both churches and participated in the Men’s Gospel Choir where he also traveled with the group ministering the gospel in music in the churches of the local communities.
Woodrow grew up in Sussex County, VA and received his early education in the elementary and secondary schools of Sussex County, VA. Upon completion of his former education, he worked as a farmer and later became employed as a Foreman at the Virginia Pine Lumber Company, previously located in Stony Creek, VA and afterwards with Smith Setzer & Sons Concrete Company, Stony Creek, VA as a Machinist where he later retired from public service in 1984.
Woodrow was preceded in death by wife, Sarah and youngest son Dennis.
Woodrow is survived by his sons Richard Woodrow, Jr. and “Janet” Jackson of Newport News, VA; Thomas Jackson of Capitol Heights, MD; James and “Evelyn” Jackson, Petersburg, VA; daughter in law, Claudia” Jackson, Stony Creek, VA; his grandchildren, Anthony, Thomas Jr., James Jr., Terrell, Denisha and Amzi; his great-grandchildren, Cameron, Chayse, Leah, Kennedy, Madison, Chai Mari; a host of nieces and nephews.
Woodrow was the youngest of eight children born into the family. His brothers and sisters who preceded him death are, Edgar L. Jackson (deceased); Willie F. Jackson (deceased); Russell E. Jackson (deceased); Mary Jackson Andrews (deceased); Nancy Jackson Wilson (deceased), Lillian Jackson Guy (deceased) and Mable Ann Jackson Urquhart (deceased); also preceded in death are his nephews, Eldridge, Louie, and Algie Andrews.
The family will like to acknowledge two devoted caregivers, Christine Barber, and Gloria Pettiford, and the staff of Yours Truly Inc., and the extended family of Sycamore Towers.
A funeral will be held on Thursday April 10, 2014 at 12 Noon at the Galilee Baptist Church, Stony Creek, with the pastor, Rev. Dr. Linwood James, officiating. Burial will follow at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park. Viewing will be held on Wednesday April 9, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel.
