Dan Williams Jr. 81, of South Bend passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 in his home. He was born to Daniel Williams Sr. and Katie Douglas on November 24, 1932 in Tallulah, Louisiana.
Dan moved to South Bend at a very young age. He worked 32 years for the City of South Bend as a heavy equipment operator. For his many years of service, Mayor Stephen J. Luecke bestowed to Dan the Key to the City upon his retirement.
Dan is survived by daughters: Danita (Herman) Jackson of Oakland, California, Denise Williams of Independence, Missouri; stepdaughter, Tina Cotton of South Bend, Indiana; sons: Joseph (Melanie) Williams of Muskegon, Michigan, Tony (Annette) Williams of South Bend; sisters: Emma (Sammy) Finister, Gloria Jean (Jesse) Presley all of Los Angeles, California, Irma Smith, Irene Fowler, and Pearl Chapman, all of Harvey, Illinois, Maylee Young of Chicago, Illinois; brothers: Ledell (Veronica) Williams, Travis (Eddie Jean) Williams, Ronald Williams, Larry Williams, all of Oakland, California; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Sylvester Young.
Special thanks to Brenda Williams, Vernita Kelly and Hospice of St. Joseph County. Both ladies were there to provide comfort and care. Hospice of St. Joseph County is an exceptional organization whose assistance was needed and greatly appreciated.
Services for Daniel Williams Jr. will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 in Clark-O’Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
