Lisa E. (Belz) Meek, age 85 passed away to join her husband in eternity on Sunday, April 6, 2014. She was born a twin on January 16, 1929 to Johann and Elisabeth Belz in Frankfurt, Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Meek of 52 years, baby daughter Peggy, and a twin sister Margot. The Belz family experienced difficult years as Lisa was growing up. Her twin sister died at birth and her family had to endure the severity of WWII in Frankfurt. The family lived in fear as air raid sirens went off frequently and they were forced to run for cover. Their apartment building’s top floor was bombed. Her father was taken prisoner in a Russian Concentration Camp later being released. Lisa met American soldier, Frank A. Duncan, stationed in Frankfurt and they were married in Germany in 1948 and made their home in the United States. They had three children, Frank H, Peggy Ann, and James G. Duncan. Lisa married Robert G. Meek in 1958 and resided in Lansing for the remainder of her life. She was a member of South Baptist Church of Lansing. She worked many years at Kwast Bakery and was a member of the Lansing Moose Lodge. She is survived by her loving and devoted sons, Frank H. (Kay Lynn) Duncan of Haslett, MI, and James G. (Kristeen) Duncan of Mason, Mi, four grandchildren, Matthew (Kellie) Duncan, James (Helen) Duncan, Elizabeth (Jeff) Harbin, and Michael (Sara) Duncan, and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are step children Sue Matchie, John Meek, Kathy Lynch, Faye Hoose and Roxanne Osborne, several cousins and longtime German friend Rosie Bell, who faithfully remained close to Lisa until the end. She spent the last 10 years of her life residing at Whitehills Healthcare Center and we would like to thank them for her care during those years.
