Gene Cozzi-Young

Florence Emogene Cozzi-Young, at the age of 95, was called home to our heavanly father on April 3, 2014 in Merced, CA.  She was born September 12, 1918 in Oklahoma to Jim and Katie McEver. She resided in Merced County for a collective 56 years.

Gene's mind remained sharp as a tack until the very end.  Anyone that started a conversation with her also found that she loved to visit. At the age of 19, she met her first husband Frank Cozzi and the were married after only a few short weeks' courtship. Frank passed away in 1963.  In 1968, she married a gentleman by the name of  Walt Young.  She worked for Unted States Postal Service for 20 years as a postal carrier in Dos Palos and Bakersfield. She was an active member of the Dos Palos Y-etts,  loved to go bowling, watching basketball on television, and was an avid card player belonging to bridge and canasta clubs. one of her hobbies included stringing beads to make jewelry for family and friends.  She also was a great cook and  loved family gatherings, the last of which was her 95 birthday party.

Gene was predceed in death by her husbsands Frank Cozzi Sr. and Walt Young, her parents Jim and Katie McEver, her brothers Wilson and Austin McEver, her sisters Lily Pickard and Flo Harding and one grandchild Kevin Cozzi.

Gene leaves behind her sons Frank Jr. and his wife Louella, Robert and his wife Kyltia, Rex and his wife Sarah, Jim and his wife Connie  and Tom, along with  10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dos Palos for her Funeral Mass Wednesday April 9th at 10:00am, internment to follow at Dos Palos District Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hinds Hospice of Merced or The American Heart Assocition.
