MARY NANCY BLANTON SMITH
(December 28, 1929 - March 25, 2014)

Nancy passed away in the Alleghany Memorial Hospital, Sparta, NC. She was born in Forsyth County, NC, to the late James Overton Blanton II and Edith Sapp Blanton.

She graduated from Hanes High School in 1947, Women's Colleg of UNC in 1951 and earned her Masters Degree from Radford University in Radfor, VA. She retired from her career as a science educator at Oak Hill Academy and Grayson High School sfter teaching in othe states including Florida and Massachusetts

Mrs. Smith served her community on Grayson County's Board of Supervisors including chairmansship, Board of Wytheville Communuity Copllege and Twin County Airport Commission. She was an active member of many proffessional organizations including Galax-Grayson Retired Teachers and Red Hats. She was an avid outdoor lover, a snow skier, world travler and pilot of her Cessna Aircraft-including flying over Pike's Peak in Colorado. 

Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and legendary high school science teacher whose students remember her lovingly and appreciateed her tremendons postive influence and contributions to their lives and occupatiions today.
Four of the medical personal who assisted Mrs. Smith at Alleghany Hospital were former students and remembere he dedications and passion for teaching and caring for them inividually.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Dean (Bobby) Smith of the home; children, Cynthia (Bob) Westmoreland of Warner Robbins, Geogia, Jennifer Smith of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Michaeel Smith of Radford, VA and Amanda and Kimbray Von Grosse, Littleton, Colorado, a brother, J. O. Blanton III, Jacksonville, FLorida, brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Hoover of Lexington, NC; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 29th at 11:00am at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Chapel in Independence, VA. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery. Rev. Eddie Roland will officiate.
