Richard F. Sager, Sr., 90, Hazleton died Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton. Born in Hazleton he was the son of the late Frederick and Anna (Kellner) Sager. He was a 1941 graduate of Hazleton High School and attended Bloomsburg State College. He was a Naval Veteran of WWII serving in both Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of Operations, and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer First Class. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Hazleton, the Hazleton Elks Lodge #200, and the VFW. Before retiring in 1989, he worked as a Purchasing Agent for Central Penn Industries, Inc., formerly of Hazleton and Princess Susan Coal Co., of Charleston, WV. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were a sister Anna Rose Veale, and brothers; Joseph, and infant brother Frederick.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, the former Catherine J. Piccola, sons, Richard F. Jr. and his wife Donna, McCloud, CA, Gary J. Decatur, GA, and Thomas M, Hazleton, and daughter; Diane Brown and her husband David, Charleston, WV. Grandchildren, Scott Sager, Christopher Brown, Madison, and Shelby Sager, along with several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:30 am from Fierro Funeral Service, Inc followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Rosary Church at 10 am. Rev. Michael Piccola, nephew will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
