Waymon Lewis “Wine” Donahue of Rockford departed this earthly life Sunday, March 16, 2014 in his home after a short illness. He was born October 23, 1944 in Chicago, IL the son of Malissa and Oscar Donahue, later being raised by his step father Van Laster. Waymon lived most of his life in Rockford coming from Chicago. He was employed over 20 years by Quaker Oats Company before retiring. Waymon was a member of New Direction Baptist Church. He attended Jefferson Middle School.
Waymon, leaves to cherish many memories, four sons, Anthony Thompson, Troy (Candy) Donahue and Lamont (Demetria) Toney and Jermaine (Sandra) Haney; daughters, Cynthia Donahue, Danielle (Vince) Jackson, Bessie Caviness and Jessie Johnson; a host of grand children and great grandchildren; five brothers, Gerald (Linda) Donahue, Duane Donahue, Rev. Eddie (Melissa) Laster, Bruce and Steve Laster ; five sisters, Gloria Haynie, Eld. Junita Williams, Georgia Laster, Bertha (Len) Arberry and Lurrent (Rodrick) Beard; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special niece, Revena Haynie and the love of his life Vanessa Donahue. He was predeceased by his son, Russell Donahue, parents, Oscar Donahue, and Malissa and Van Laster, three brothers, Elroy, Jim, and Van Laster Jr.; and sister Louise Ingram.
Services will be held 11:00a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Greater Harvest Church 2226 19th Street with Pastor Clarence Holman officiating. Burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home 2429 W. State St.
