Jack R. Good

Of Lansing

Jack Good, age 95, passed away peacefully at Grandhaven Living Center in Lansing on March 12, 2014.  Jack was born in Toledo, Ohio, on February 8, 1919.     Jack graduated from Edgerton High School in 1937 where he was senior class president and sometimes played piano for school assemblies.  Jack served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945 as a weatherman for the 8th Air Force in England.  Upon returning home, Jack met the love of his life.  Two weeks after he proposed, Jack and Dorothy were married on August 12, 1945, a marriage that lasted 63 years.  Jack worked at various jobs before deciding to continue his education.  He attended Ohio State University, graduated from Defiance College in 1957, and received his Master's from the University of Michigan.  Jack taught school in Chelsea and Lansing, Michigan until his retirement in 1977.

Jack learned to play the piano at a young age and shared this gift with family and friends well into his 90s.   Jack had many friends and especially enjoyed playing bridge--he and Dorothy were a formidable pair around the bridge table.  Jack enjoyed traveling, exploring American Indian culture, went white water rafting down the Colorado River, and never turned down a good chili dog.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents Daniel and Evadne Good, sister Dorothy, and special friends Milt and Willie Carter. Jack is survived by his children David Good (Evelyn) and Gigi Foltz (John); granddaughter Shelley Foltz (David); sister-in-law Beverly Hitt (Ellis); nephews Paul Smith (Shirley), Todd Hitt (Patty), and Dana Hitt (Becky); great nephew Michael Smith; great nieces Jennifer Smith and Rachelle, Lauren, Audrey, and Lucy Hitt; brother-in-law Larry Sarbaugh and family; Barry Anttila; Stacey Anttila (Scott Lindsay) and Cullen Lindsay.    A memorial service will be held in the Spring in Edgerton, Ohio.
