India Lee Jones Robinson

Mrs. India Lee Jones Robinson, 70, of Dinwiddie, Va., entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va. She was born on Oct. 2, 1943 to the late Melvin and Beulah Jones of Stony Creek, Va. She was also preceded in death by two sisters. Naomi "Mickey" Jones and Louise Marshall.India was baptized at an early age and joined the Little Bethel Baptist Church. She was a faithful and dedicated member, serving as a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School treasurer for many years. She also worked diligently with the youth and youth programs. For a period of time, she even served as a teacher for the Dinwiddie County Sunday School Union. India graduated from Southside High School in Dinwiddie, Va. She retired from Beech, Mold and Tool, Jarratt, Va.India is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Elijah J. Robinson; one loving and caring son and his wife, both very dedicated, Dean I. Robinson (Gail); two granddaughters, Karon Nivens (Lamar) and Unishea Robinson; two great-grandsons who were the "apple of her eye," Kaiden Nivens and John Grant III; a niece, who she considered a daughter, Jean Rives; and a great-nephew who she loved as her grandson, William Rives Jr.; two sisters, Shirley M. Jones, who was very devoted, and Diane Flowers (Stith); one brother, Melvin Jones Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Robinson (Ollie) and Lola Jones (Melvin); two brothers-in-law, Larry Robinson and Bruce Robinson; a host of other nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; adear friend, Mrs. Elizabeth Tucker; two dedicated caregivers, Rosalind Sheppard and Dalphine Parham.India was affectionately known as "grandma" by many who frequented her home during their youth, to include Marica Moore, DeBryant Mabry, Shakalah Myler and DeAjah Johnson Mabry. There were also many dedicated church members, neighbors, and friends who provided transportation to doctor appointments and dialysis treatments.A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday March 15, 2014, at the Little Bethel Baptist Church, Stony Creek, Va., with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. David L. Banks Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will assemble at 2:15 p.m at the residence on the day of the service. Remains may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at the McKenney Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.Funeral services are entrusted to the Joseph M. Johnson and Son Funeral Home, 111107 Doyle Blvd., McKenney, 804-478-4411.
