Joseph J Breslin III

Commander Joseph J. Breslin III, 71, an American Patriot, Husband, Father and Grandfather passed away to his Eternal Maker on Sunday, March 9, 2014. Born on December 12, 1942 he was the son of the late Joseph J. Breslin II and Dorothy Breslin of New Jersey. Joe served his country in the U.S. Navy for a career that spanned over three-and-a half decades of honorable and faithful service which included the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars and was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal. He worked at the Portsmouth Marine Terminal for 15 years as a Foreman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree since 1976, and the Aviation Boatswains Mates Association. He was a devoted family man that committed himself to the core, ideals of God and service. He touched everyone that he knew through perpetuity with compassion; insight and advice. There are no words to truly describe the person, husband, father, and friend he was to those who loved him and will whole heartedly miss him. Other than his mother he is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandra N. Breslin; daughters, Christine Breslin Jones, Deneen Breslin Forsythe; a son, Kelly Shane Breslin; sisters, Kathy Dalessio, Bette Della Vecchia; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A visitation for Commander Joseph J. Breslin, III will be held on Thursday evening at the Woodlawn Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Make A Wish of Greater Virginia, 2810 N.
