Harold R. Zaccagnini

“Loving Father &Grandfather”

Mr. Harold R. “Zack” Zaccagnini, 65, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, March 10, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Diane (Longo) Zaccagnini for 42 years.

Zack was born in Waterbury, CT on May 9, 1948, son of the late John L. and Emma E. (Hill) Zaccagnini. He was the co-owner of Z & A Insurance Agency for 30 years before his retirement in April of 2013. He was the basketball coach at St. Peter & Paul School for 20 years and St. Margaret McTernan School/Chase Collegiate for 15 years, where he won 2 League Championships and 2 New England Championships. Zack also coached at the Naugatuck YMCA Pal League and the Friday Night League. He coached the girls at Oxford High School for 2 years and in the past year coached the 7th & 8th grade Shelton Intermediate School boys. He was very involved in the East Mountain Athletic Association. As a coach he won many awards including Coach of the Year for the Olympian Club and Waterbury Sportsman Club. He was recently considered for the Naugatuck Basketball Hall of Fame. He was an avid golfer and played at East Mountain and at the Hop Brook Wednesday Night League. He was a member of the Naugatuck Elks Club.

Besides his wife, he leaves a his sons, Mark Zaccagnini and his wife, Jennifer, Brian Zaccagnini and his wife, Krista and Jason Zaccagnini and his wife, Melissa, brothers, Richard and John Zaccagnini, sister, Annette Edgecomb, grandchildren, Shea, Emma, Billy, Ty, Chase, Mya, Kyle, Jake and James and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements: His funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 am from the Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to St. Peter & Paul Church for a Mass at 10:30 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
