Wendell Joseph Harris

U.S. Veteran

Our beloved Wendell Joseph Harris was born November 11, 1938 in New York, New York to the late Lillian Franklin and William Harris. Wendell was affectionately known as Duke. He peacefully departed this life at Seventy Five years of age on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Duke received his education through the Philadelphia School System and was a proud graduate of Germantown High. During his High School years he developed his love for chemistry and football. After graduation he continued to advance his studies in chemistry, this lead to gainful employment with the Smith-Kline and French Company. Duke was also employed for many years at Saracen Foundry as a metallurgist. Duke was a lighthearted, funny and a witty practical jokester as well as an avid football phonetic. He enjoyed any and every aspect pertaining to sports. During Duke’s younger years he was a great outdoors man who loves to hunt and fish. Duke united in holy matrimony with Octavia Perry on December 12, 2000 in Statesville, North Carolina. The couple enjoyed over 30 years of love and compassion before his death. Wendell Joseph Harris was a loving husband, father, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Duke was preceded in death by his three brother: William Harris, Jr., Frank Harris and Samuel Gerald Franklin. Duke leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving wife Octavia; daughter, Coena C. Harris; Son, Wendell D. Harris; Step-Daughter Ericka Rashid (Hassana); three grandchildren, Gabriel Hall, Ezekiel Harris, Jordan Hall, and a special great niece Nadirah McLean. Yours Sorrowfully, The Family
