Remo Stephen Lando, born April 13, 1918 in San Pedro, CA, passed away March 2, 2014 in Paradise, CA, leaving behind a loving wife and large extended family.

Remo’s parents, Giovanni (“John”) Lando and Lena (Verme) were Italian immigrants from San Salvatore, Genoa, and operated a grocery store in San Pedro, CA. Remo enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1942, serving in Victorville, CA as a flight mechanic on Beechcraft AT-11 “Kansan” aircraft, training B-17 and B-24 bomber crews in the use of the secret Norden bomb-sight.

Remo was a mechanic, trout fisherman, and amateur historian who enjoyed traveling California with his RV Club, and spending time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was deeply faithful, and belonged to the St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Paradise, CA.

During the war, he met Florence Belle Rosa of San Francisco, whom he married, and fathered 3 sons: Herbert (deceased), John, and Barre.

Following Florence’s death from cancer in 1967, Remo married Mary-Jane Judge, living in Graeagle, CA, Eureka, CA, and Santa Rosa, CA, until Mary-Jane’s death in 1978.

Remo Married Edith Ann Dejak in Santa Rosa in 1979, and eventually moved to Magalia, CA, where they lived happily until her death in 1993.

In 2009 Remo married Mary Lutz in Paradise, CA, where they made a loving home together until his passing.

Remo is survived by wife Mary; sister Irene Duncan of San Jose, CA, and sister Lillian Lane of San Pedro, CA.

With Florence Belle Rosa, Remo was preceded in death by son Herbert (Dianne) of Petaluma, CA. Remo leaves son John (Signe) of Fairfax, CA; son Barre (Deborah) of Petrolia, CA; grandchildren Kimberly of Petaluma, CA; Brian of Sacramento, CA; Todd (Carey) of San Anselmo, CA; Bryden of Hollywood, CA; Blaine (Valerie) of Montecito, CA; Stephanie Scarpello (Rick) of Novato, CA; and great grandchildren Allison and Adrienne of Petaluma, CA; Giovanni and Adriana of San Anselmo, CA; and Bettina of Montecito, CA.

With Edith Dejak, Remo leaves children Jim Kunz (Ceressa) of Paso Robles, CA and Lori Kelly of Paradise, CA; grandchildren Melissa Lindsey (Joel) of Racine, WI; Kirsten Palmquist (Andrew) of Aptos, CA; Casey Evenson (John) of McKinleyville, CA; Tristan Kunz (Heather) of Forest Grove, OR; Andrew and Juliana Kunz of Paso Robles, CA; great grandchildren Eli, Beckett, and Schaeffer Lindsey of Racine, WI; Aiden, Emerson, and Kaisa Palmquist of Aptos, CA; Gage and Keely Evenson of McKinleyville, CA; and Kameron Kunz of Forrest Grove, OR.

With Mary Lutz, Remo leaves children Anita K. Dominguez (Tony) of Paradise, CA; Starr Quall, of Colorado; Raymond C. Lutz of El Cajon, CA; Tamara C. Romeo of San Diego, CA; Grandchildren, Austin Lutz of San Diego, CA; Garrett Lutz of San Jose, CA; Mary Greiner of Carlsbad, CA; Armeda Dominguez of South Lake Tahoe, CA; Zachary Seal of Colorado; and Julia Maynard of Florida.

Funeral Mass will be held 11am Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Paradise, CA. Interment will be in Paradise cemetery.
