U.S. Veteran

Russell Eugene VanZant age 86 of Paxton passed away March 1, 2014. He was born in Montgomery, Ohio on May 25, 1927 to Charles Henry VanZant and Cora Mae Kennedy VanZant. Russell proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II. After he returned home he worked in the trucking industry. Russell had two special hobbies woodworking and crocheting. He enjoyed watching sports especially baseball and football and his favorite team was always the one that won. Nothing was more important to Russell as his family. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. Russell's faith in Jesus Christ sustained him as he battled many health issues. He fought the good fight. He finished the race. He kept the faith.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 16 years, Ruth Bane VanZant of Paxton, sons, Dale VanZant of Santa Rosa, FL, Gary VanZant of North Carolina, Lance Chambers of Seva, FL, Allen LaRue Chambers and wife Margie of DeFuniak Springs, FL, daughters, Penny Sullivan of DeFuniak Springs, Fonda Ellis and husband Jim of Navarre and Devon Spychalski of Indiana. Russell is also survived 9 grandchildren, Blake Emme, Guthry, Arie, Casly, Ann, Mobly, Jennifer and Zack. He relished being their "GrandPa". Russell is also survived 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Treva VanZant; father, Charles Henry VanZant; mother, Cora Mae Kennedy VanZant.

Funeral services for Russell VanZant will be 2PM Tuesday March 4, 2014 from Evans Funeral Home with Lindsey Martin, Margie Chambers and Tyson Stokes officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 6-7. Interment will be in the Paxton Cemetery.
