SHELCY MULLINS, SR., 86, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, February 28th at his home surrounded by his loving family. There to welcome him to his eternal home were his father, Arvil Mullins; his mother, Bessie Mullins; his sisters, Cuba Ann Mullins, Erma Jane Strouth, and Geraldine Honaker; brothers, Douglas Mullins, Raleigh Mullins, Gaylon Mullins and Turl Mullins; and son-in-law, Lloyd Smith. A native of Pound and a lifelong resident of Wise County, Shelcy served as Wise County jailor for four years, and thereafter as Sheriff of Wise County for sixteen years. Shelcy was co-owner of Bolling-Mullins Trucking Company and Wilder Coal Company with his best friend, Paul Bolling. His favorite charity was the Virginia Kentucky District Fair for which he volunteered fifty-four years and was chairman of the committee for twenty-five years. He was a member of the Pound Masonic Lodge for fifty-six years, and a member of the Kazim Shrine Temple of Roanoke and Wise County Shrine Club for forty-two years. Surviving are his loving wife of sixty five years, Ella Jane Mullins; his five children: Gretta Ellis and boyfriend, Garey Mullins, Carol Mullins, Kathy Mullins Smith, Shelcy Mullins, Jr. and wife, Karen, Nancy Mullins and fiancé, Bobby Reynolds, all of Wise; his six grandchildren: Beverly Grigsby and husband, Freddy, of Big Stone Gap, Dr. Rusty Mize of Washington, DC, Chelsie Mullins of Bristol, VA, Courtney Rasnake, Lawton Mullins, and Casey Mullins, all of Wise; four great-grandsons: Garth Nicely and girlfriend Megan Boggs of Wise, Hobie Rasnake of Wise, Cory Nicely and girlfriend Christyn Sexton, and Colton Grigsby of Big Stone Gap; sister, Raydell Cross of Wise, and brother, Wallace Mullins, Sr. and wife, Debbie, of Pound. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation hours are from 2-7 pm on Monday, March 3rd at Zion Family Ministries 1613 Norton Road Wise, VA 24293. Masonic Service will be conducted at 7 pm and a celebration of his life immediately following. Graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 4th at 1 pm at the Shelcy Mullins Family Cemetery in Pound. Family and friends will meet at 12:00 noon at the church to go to the cemetery in procession.
