Jones, Agnes Viola (Butler) Age 77 of Arlington, Virginia.
On Tuesday, February 25, 2014 the heavenly angels knocked on the hospital door of Agnes Viola “Vi” Jones and she answered. They gave her wings, which enabled her to fly away from this world of sorrow and pain to spend an eternity with the Lord.
Viola, the daughter of the late Louis Butler and Madeline Louvenia Hill, was born August 19, 1936 in Rock Point, Maryland. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son’s Alvin & Alfred, and daughter Pamela; granddaughter Asia, sisters; Bertha Ann Thomas, Mary Wells, Eleanor Butler, Agnes Brown and Pauline Wells; special aunt Maggie Donley.
She was educated in the Charles County, Maryland public schools. After graduating from Bel Alton High School, she spent her life working in In-Home Services and she was beloved by many of the families that employed her. Viola married the late James Milton Thomas, Sr. and from this union twelve wonderful children were born. She accepted Christ at an early age. Baptized under the catholic faith, she later joined Shiloh Community United Methodist Church, Newburg, MD. After her marriage to the late Lonnie R. Jones she moved to Northern Virginia in 1974. She was baptized on February 18, 1998 at St. John’s Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the Summer Season, Nursing Union and the St. John’s Quilting Club.
Outside of spending time with her family, she enjoyed reading, traveling, shopping. . .QVC and was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan. She also enjoyed being a member of the Flamingo Club, spending time with her church family and the Arlington View Senior at the Carver Center. All that knew her. . .loved her.
Viola leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Margaret Cook, her children; Jacqui, Niecy, Milton Jr. (Esther), Michelle (Kelly), Mary Katherine, Louie (Denise), Rosie, Terry (LaTisha) and Karen (Terrell). Her brothers-in-law; Clarence “Ace” Thomas and Wallace Reed Thomas, and sister-in-law Hazel Thomas. Her grandchildren; LaTaveya Ford, Corie Thomas, Ebony Williams, Angela Thomas, Andrew Sprowel II, David Taylor Jr., Jasmine Vinson, Patrice Berry, Rydell Thomas, Thomas Taylor, Jada Thomas, Nia Brockman, Aejah Thomas, James Thomas III, and Chance Thomas. One great grandchild, Jazmirh Benton; godchildren, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.
Viewing, 4pm to 8pm, Friday, March 7, 2014 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640 and from 9am until time of Service, 11am, Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St. John's Baptist Church, 1905 Columbia Pike, Arlington, Virginia 22204.
