John Stoddard “Jack” Brown, 69, a life long resident of Rock Springs, Wyoming, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. He was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on November 23, 1944, the son of the late Richard Brown and Hattie Stoddard Brown. Mr. Brown attended schools in Rock Springs, Wyoming and graduated from Rock Springs High School with the Class of 1963. He also attended and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and Statistics. He later attended Michigan State University for post graduate work . He married Mary Ann Miller in Rock Springs, Wyoming on March 27, 1967. Mr. Brown served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and received an Army Medal of Commendation. He was employed as a Data Processing Manager for Rock Springs National Bank for thirty-six years and was also an officer of the bank. While working at the bank, he also taught Computer Science at Western Wyoming Community College for thirteen years. Following retirement, he was employed at School District #1 as a school bus driver for six years. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, yard work, spending time with his children, grandchildren, wife and his pets. He loved coaching baseball, basketball and also coached a traveling soccer team. Mr. Brown was a member of the American Legion, Archie Hay Post 24, Jaycee’s and former board member of the Young at Heart Senior Citizen Center. Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Brown of Rock Springs, Wyoming; one son John Vincent Brown and wife Laura of Rolesville, North Carolina; two daughters Amy Marie Apostolope and husband J.P. of Green River, Wyoming and Julie Ann Shiek and husband Martin of Herriman, Utah; one sister Judy Wilcox and husband Jim of Green River, Wyoming; four grandchildren Kaitlyn Eaton and husband Chevy of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Trey Apostolope of Green River, Wyoming and Eliza Shiek and Bruce Shiek both of Herriman Utah; two great-grandchildren, Zoey Eaton and Sophia Eaton, both of Rock Springs, Wyoming; two brothers-in-law Jim Miller and wife Barbi of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Mark Miller and wife Beth of Jackson, Michigan; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Hattie Brown and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Leo and Christine Miller.

Following cremation, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 28, 2014 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church,116 Broadway in Rock Springs, Wyoming. A Vigil Service with Rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M., Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the church. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the rosary and on Friday morning at the church one hour prior to services. Military Honors and inurnment will be conducted at the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
