John Douglas

John Douglas “Doug” Arnold, 84, of Macomb, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Kissimmee, Florida.

He was born on March 27, 1929 to Olen Douglas and Jessie (Jackson) Arnold in Wanette, Oklahoma.

Doug was raised in the Sacred Heart, Tecumseh and Earlsboro areas. He attended Wewoka High School and lived most of his life in the Wewoka area until moving to Oklahoma City and then later to Macomb where he made his home for the last 20 plus years.

He married Ione Scott on March 27, 1948 in Wewoka, Oklahoma.

Doug was a Church of Christ Minister for 50 years preaching at churches in Sasakwa, Cromwell and other smaller congregations. He was the minister at Wanette Church of Christ for 18 years before retiring. Doug worked as a police officer in Wewoka for several years, before becoming the undersheriff for Seminole County and later serving as Chief of the State Capitol Police.

He was a member of the Highland Church of Christ in Tecumseh. Doug was a very devout man of his faith and loved serving the Lord. He enjoyed visiting and spending time with friends and family and working on his farm. Doug was very active in the Lions Club and was awarded the Melvin Jones Award and the Distinguished Service Award. He was a good provider, husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Craig Arnold; and granddaughter, Pamela Arnold.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Ione Arnold, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Olen and Audrey Arnold, of Seminole; 2 grandsons, Brent Arnold and Mike Stidham; 3 granddaughters, Monica Palmer, Krista Clark and Michelle Stidham; 9 great-grandchildren, Thomas, Laura, Briar, Marley, Ashton, Angela, Kaleb, Allison, Brianna and Zoey; sister, Pat Ray, of Oklahoma City; aunt, Ruby Mae Jones of Shawnee; niece, Cindy Hendrick; and many extended family and friends.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 23, 2014 and continue through service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2014 at Highland Church of Christ in Tecumseh with Erick Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
