Ullman David “Butch” Burright, 91, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb.
Born August 2, 1922, in Rochelle, the son of Charles and Viola Marie (Hardesty) Burright, Butch married Martha Myllyniemi on July 23, 1944, in DeKalb.
He was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in DeKalb. Butch was a veteran of the US Army during World War II; for his service he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of VFW Post 3878 in Rochelle and American Legion Post 66 DeKalb, and served on the honor guard for many years. Butch also was active in DeKalb Area Alano Club.
He worked at DeKalb Cyclone Fence and for Milk Consumers, retiring from Muller Pinehurst Dairy. He also was a chef, working part-time at Kishwaukee Country Club and Fargo Hotel in Sycamore. He also worked as a meat cutter at Inboden’s Meat Market in DeKalb.
He is survived by his son, Ronald (Kathy) Burright of DeKalb; grandchildren, Pat (Carla) Burright of Fremont, California, Matt Burright of DeKalb, Debbi (Rick) Kohler of Sycamore, Erik (Wendy) Gilbert of Rochelle, and Aaron (Julie) Gilbert of Cary; 13 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Helen Piefer of Joplin, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; daughter, Karen Gilbert; parents; and four brothers, William, Robert, Orville and Eugene.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1915 North First Street, DeKalb, with the Rev. Dan Wynard officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb, with full military honors by American Legion, AmVets and VFW.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
