John

Longtime Manassa resident John “Johnny” Andrew Pacheco, 83, died February 7, 2014 at his home in Manassa surrounded by his loving family.

Johnny was born in Chamisal, New Mexico on September 29, 1930, the son of Manuel and Carmel Vasquez Pacheco.

He worked for many years as a Silversmith and Turquoise cutter for jewelry. He also worked in the fields as a Foreman on many different farms throughout the San Luis Valley. Johnny will be remembered for his ability to tell a good story and his never ending sense of humor. He always had a joke to put a smile on your face.

Johnny was close to his mother and lived with her taking care of all her needs throughout his whole life and up until her death. In his spare time he taught himself how to play the guitar and the harmonica.

Johnny is survived by his brothers and sisters Joe (Cleo) Pacheco of Romeo, Harold (Bessie) Pacheco of Pampa, TX, Katherine Espinoza of Manassa, Caroline (Luis) Mayo of Romeo, Priscilla Vigil of Romeo, Gloria (Sam) Espinoza of Manassa, Porfie Lopez of Manassa, and Darlene (Victor) Ortega of Alamosa; as well as a host of Nieces and Nephews whom loved him dearly and thought the world of their “Uncle John”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Pilar Sisneros, sister Mary Casey, nieces and nephews: Orlando Espinoza, Richard Velarde, Joe Velarde, Rodney Romero, Angela Pacheco, Donald Pacheco and Mel Sisneros; and his great-nephew Fernando Coss.

Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the St. Theresa Catholic Church in Manassa.
