Charles Leonard Wooldridge, age 81, passed away Wednesday evening, February 5, 2014, at his home in Warsaw, Missouri.
He was born near Edwards, Missouri, on September 22, 1932, the son of Theodore & Rachel Ann Ashley Wooldridge. He attended first grade in Shawnee Bend school near Warsaw. He later moved to Fairfield with his mother and step-father, Kelly Jackson.
Leonard graduated from Warsaw High School in the class of 1951. The following month he enlisted in the United States Army. He served for three years ... the last two with the Signal Corps in Japan. He was honorably discharged in July of 1954 with the rank of Corporal.
On June 21, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marcine Tally. To this union two children were born ... a daughter, Anita Kay, and a son, Gary Lynn.
Following his discharge he and Marcine moved to Kansas City where he was employed by the Bendix Corporation for nine years at which time they returned to Warsaw.
He had attended Stevenson Automotive School while in the city and upon moving back to Benton County he worked as an auto mechanic. He was later employed by the Warsaw R-9 School district to maintain their fleet of school buses.
As a teenager he was saved and baptized in the Baptist Church and became a charter member of the Loma Vista Baptist Church in Kansas City. Upon returning to Warsaw he transferred his membership to the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, and a sister, Effie Mae.
He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-one years, Marcine, of the home, a daughter, Anita Barnes, and her husband, Kirby, a son, Gary Wooldridge, and his wife, Janie, five grandchildren, Martin Campbell, and his wife, Deanna, Stacey Carlson, and her husband, Ryan, Michael Campbell, and his wife, Ashley, Caitlin Wooldridge and Paige Wooldridge, along with seven, great-grandchildren, Alana, Emily, Anthony, Alyssa, Natalie, Emma and Ava.
Leonard was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and friend. He was proud of being from Fairfield, proud of his family and proud of having served his country.
He was so loved and will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services will be at 2:30 P.M. Saturday afternoon, February 8, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Warsaw, with Rev. Ted Francis and Rev. Danny Decker officiating. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday evening at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw.
Burial will be in the Shawnee Cemetery in Warsaw.
Pallbearers will be Martin Campbell, Michael Campbell, Melvin Hopkins, Lew Massey, Ed Scott, Junior Jackson and Ryan Carlson.
Richard Shinn, Lew Massey and Estelle Suiter will be honorary pallbearers.
