Irene R. DePue

Irene R. DePue, 64, of Long Pond, passed away and “went home to her heavenly Father” on Sunday February 2, 2014 at her home. She was the long time companion of Gary S. Kapostas Sr. at home. Born June 19,1949 in Belfast, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Harold and Frances (Schoonover) DePue. She was a resident of Monroe County for most of her lifetime and is a descendent of the DePue and Schoonover families from Bushkill Pike County. Currently she worked with her companion at the Greater Pocono Homepro Inc, doing mortgage field inspections since 1994. Prior to that she worked in the Clothing and Textile industry for many years being an inspector for Clothing and garment factories in Monroe and Northampton Counties, she also inspected ladies garments in the garment district in New York City. Irene was an avid reader, loved watching professional golf, tennis, figure skating, and was a big NSACAR fan, and loved watching all events of the Olympics. Irene loved animals especially her cat “Thanks” and the few strays she adopted. Irene Supported many local and national charities including Special Olympics, AWSOM in Stroudsburg, Family Promise and many organizations through her church of many years Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church, Hamilton Township, where she was active on the Evangelism Committee, women’s ministries and adult Sunday school. She lived in Colorado for a short time, where she loved to ski as a young adult. She was a member of the Arbor Day Foundation, and appreciated what nature is and what nature provides for us. In addition to her companion, she is survived by her sisters, Nancy Lee and her husband Foster T. Jr of Stroudsburg and Jean Kranich of Florida, her cousin Steven Schoonover and other cousins, her last surviving aunt Jeanette Von Milla of Bushkill, and her companions son Gary S. Kapostas Jr of Saylorsburg. Memorial funeral services will be held on Saturday February 15, 2014 at 11:00am in the church at Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church, 419 Bossardsville Road, Hamilton Township, Stroudsburg with Rev Brett Jenkins Officiating. There will be a visitation on Saturday February 15, 2014 in the Lighthouse at the church from 10:00am until the time of the services. The Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg is in charge of the arrangements In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church, 419 Bossardsville Road, Stroudsburg PA 18360
