Arthur C. Benton

U.S. Veteran

A lifelong Chelsea resident, he passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on February 2nd. He was 87 years of age. Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Arthur C. and Mary “Vina” (Gallant) Benton. He attended Chelsea schools and later enlisted in the US Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946.  He was a proud member of the American Legion and was supportive of many veterans' organizations.  Arthur worked for many years as a painter. He will be remembered as a kind man who befriended all who he met.


Funeral from the Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home 718 Broadway CHELSEA on Friday, February 7th at 9:00 A.M. Followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Michael the Archangel Chapel, 91 Crest Ave, Chelsea at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Welsh Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 - 8 P.M. Funeral Home fully handicap accessible, ample parking opposite Funeral Home.


He is the loving son of the late Arthur C. and Mary “Vina” (Gallant) Benton. Dear brother of Helen Barnes and her husband Neil of Chelsea and the late James, Robert and John Benton and Jean Allen Gillis. Devoted brother in law of Elaine and Elder Benton and the late Kathleen Benton. He is lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.
