John P. Drolson, age 90, of Ashland, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Ashland.
John was born on August 9, 1923, in Ashland, the son of Andrew and Anna (Bradle) Drolson. During his enlistment in the US Navy in World War 2 John served on board the U.S.S. Gilmore DE 18. He and Betty Dalbec were united in marriage, in Ashland, on May 20, 1950. He was a meat cutter at various grocery stores in Ashland, and operated the street sweeper and grader for the city of Ashland.
John loved to fish and go down to the shack in the sloughs. He was a big Packer fan and also a Milwaukee Brave and Milwaukee Brewer fan. He also liked to go to the Ashland Merchant games at Pufall field. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and WFLA Lodge 126.
John is survived by: his son, Mark (Cathy), of Ashland; his daughter, Kim, of Ashland; his grandchildren: Chad (Liz) Hurrell, and Desiree Drolson.
He was preceded in death by: Betty, his wife of 60 years, on May 22, 2010; his son, Peter; his parents; and his sister, Ann ‘Babe’ Johnson.
A gathering, for family and friends, will be held at the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday May 3, 2014, and continuing until the hour of the service.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland.
Military Honors will be provided by the United Chequamegon Area Veterans, of Ashland.
Interment will be in the Saint Agnes Cemetery, Ashland.
