Richard Henry Maddux, 92, died on Sunday, February 2, 2014. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church, officiated by The Reverend Harriette Simmons. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. The family may be contacted Wednesday from 5-7PM at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 538 Walnut Street, Macon, GA 31201or the donor's preferred charity.
Richard was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Macon, and served as senior warden and junior warden. Richard was a Kiwanis Club member, President of Riverside Cemetery Board, Idle Hour Country Club member and on the Board of Directors of Georgia Bank.
He graduated from Lanier High School and Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Richard served in World War II in the Pacific Theater as Navy Lieutenant, and was awarded the Bronze Star. After the War, he graduated from the University of Tulsa with a Petroleum Engineering degree.
He was an executive and owner of Triangle Chemical Company in Macon.
He was preceded in death by his parents Julian Reid Maddux and Ruby Beall Maddux and his brother Robert Dixon Maddux who died serving his country in World War II.
Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years Patricia Monnet Maddux of Macon, their three children Richard Henry Maddux, Jr. and his wife Sue Ellen Jackson Maddux of Kinston, NC; Eugene Monnet Maddux and his wife Valli McLemore Maddux of Smarr, GA; Melanie Maddux of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren: Richard Henry Maddux III and his wife Susannah Cox Maddux, Julian Reid Maddux II and his wife Loren Weatherly Maddux, Elizabeth Cooper Maddux and Katherine Monnet Maddux; and nephew Robert Dixon Maddux, Jr. of Spokane, WA.
