Gerald Lee Lanier, 69, of Sycamore, Illinois, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 26, 2014, at home.
Born May 23, 1944, in Ottawa, the son of Roy R. and Shirley E. (Gang) Lanier, Jerry married Ramona Mae “Mona” Holderman on May 23, 1964, in New Buffalo, Michigan.
Jerry was a 1962 graduate of Morris Community High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University. He was a member of Hillcrest Covenant Church of DeKalb, Sycamore Sportsman and Conservation Club and DeKalb Wrestling Club. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, sportsman and trap-shooter.
He was employed for 29 years by Spaulding Composites of DeKalb, serving last as general manager. He later was a consultant for I.M.E.C. for 11 years. After retiring, Jerry especially loved spending time, fishing and watching sports with his grandchildren.
Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Mona; children, Karen Grados of Sycamore and Chris Lanier of San Francisco, California; grandchildren, Ruby and Niko Lanier and Alex and Royce Grados; siblings, Ronald (Bobbie) Lanier of Kingston, Delores (Erwin) Kelly of Coal City and Doreen (Richard) Deneau of Kankakee; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry, in 2007.
The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 31, at Hillcrest Covenant Church, 1515 North First Street, DeKalb, with the Rev. Dr. James Sandberg officiating. Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date. Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 30, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
