Kenneth Barker, age 91 of Cumberland, KY, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Harlan ARH Hospital. He was born in Cumberland on September 26, 1922 to the late Melvin and Lovey Lee Barker. Ken was a retired coal miner, served in World War II, and believed in the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Loretta “Liz” Barker; daughter, Linda Foster; sons, Paul and Glen Barker; brothers, Bernard, Johnny, Eugene, Bill and Roy Barker.
He is survived by his children, Claudette (Jack) Craiger of Partridge, Joyce (Lloyd, Jr.) Polson, Charlotte Smith, Marcia (Kenny Wayne) Smith, and Judy (Steve) Simpson all of Cumberland; sisters, Marie, Shirley Cockrum, Edith, and Jenny; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends in the Tri City Funeral Home Chapel in Benham, KY on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, between 5 – 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at 1 pm with Reverend John Neal and Reverend Ron Oplinger officiating. Interment will be in the Monte Vista Cemetery in Cumberland, KY with Kenny and Stephen Foster, Jeff Craiger, Michael Barker, Cody and Kyle Simpson serving as pallbearers. Military rites will be held at the graveside.
