John E. Schreck

St. Petersburg, West Carthage - John E. (Jack) Schreck, 86, of 5990 Terrace Park Drive N., St. Petersburg, FL, died Friday evening, January 24, 2014, in the emergency room of the Northside Hospital, St. Petersburg, FL after being stricken at his residence.

John was born in Deferiet, NY on August 5, 1927, the son of the late Joseph and Anna Kogut Schreck. He attended Carthage High School. He married the former Delana Jane Bell on November 29, 1958 in Carthage. John worked in the converting department of the former Crown Zellerbach Corp. for 20 years and moved to Connecticut in 1965. He retired after a 22 year career as a schedule analyst with Pratt-Whitney, United Technologies in East Hartford, CT. The couple moved to Florida in 1987 and spent their summers at their residence on North Main St. in West Carthage.

He loved vintage automobiles and was an owner of several. He was a member of St. James Church, Carthage and the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge # 1762 of Carthage.

He is survived by his wife, Delana J. Schreck of St. Petersburg, Fl, 3 sisters, Mary Holliday and Alice Burrell both of Carthage and Dorothy Smith of St. Petersburg, Fl, a sister-in-law and her husband, Diana and James Calender of Voorhees, NJ and a brother-in-law and his wife, David and Jackie Bell of Cape Vincent and several nieces and nephews. A brother Joseph and two sisters, Theresa Wojtowicz and Helen Archer died previous.

Memorial services will be held in the spring at St. James Church in Carthage with the date and time to be announced. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Carthage.
