Sarah A. Griffis, 68, of Hatch St., Corry, died unexpectedly Friday January 24, 2014 at St. Vincent Health Center, Erie. She was born in Corry, Pa., on June 18, 1945, a daughter to the late E. Clark and Celesta Tripp Lindsey. Sarah was raised and educated in Corry and graduated from Corry High School. She worked as a custodian for the Corry School District, Erie Plastics, Foamex and The Corry Journal. She also spent many years caring for her father-in-law. She was a member of the Corry Central Labor Club, was a former secretary at the Polish National Alliance, and past junior vice president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Sarah was also an avid collector of angels and enjoyed playing bingo. She will be most remembered as a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer A. Richards, a grandson Elijah Whaley; her in-laws Milton and Helen Griffis and several half- brothers and half- sisters. Sarah is survived by her husband John Griffis of Corry, Pa. whom she married on Febraury 8, 1964 in Corry, Pa.; two daughters, Anna Richards and her good friend , Bill Church, Sonya Whaley and her husband David; two sons, Phil Griffis and his wife Amy, and Gerry Griffis and his wife Tara all of Corry, Pa.; four brothers, Richard Williams of Corry, Pa., Phil Lindsey and his wife Marge of Busti, NY., Harry Lindsey and his wife Diane of Corry, Pa., and Joe Lindsey and his wife Elaine of Columbus, Pa.; grandchildren, Jeffrey Richards and his wife April, Matthew Richards and his wife Miranda, Michael Richards and his wife Stephanie, Katherine Griffis, Celesta Griffis, Kyle, Nick,and Jakob Rogers, Steven, Brin, and Jonathan Griffis, Matthew, Abigail, Kayla, Triston, Isabelle, and Nehemiah Whaley; 4 great-grandchildren, Lucas Johnson, Cameron Richards, Genna Richards and Jack Stampfli; and several half -brothers, half- sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends may call at The Salt Church, 205 E. Washington St., Corry, Pa. on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 4 p.m. Pastor Al Gernovich will officiate.
