Archie A. DeJaynes, known by family and friends as “Buck” and “Papa Smurf” age 72, of Lincoln, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at his home. He was born on October 3, 1941 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Archie and Beatrice (Synder) DeJaynes.

He grew up in Kansas City and graduated from North Kansas City High School. In 1961, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served overseas in special missions prior to the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on March 12, 1965. In 1965 he was united in marriage to Sharon Smith, they made their home in Lee’s Summit. Archie was an ironworker for Local #10 in Kansas City. He served as an apprentice instructor there for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1993 and moving to Lake Area.

He co-owned and operated LD Enterprises, which oversaw the operation of Subway Restaurants throughout the area. Archie also spent many years working concessions at the Missouri State Fair and gave of his time at the Children’s Therapy Center, the MRCA Exceptional Rodeo at the Missouri State Fair and the Benton County Food Pantry.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Elma Smith, a brother-in-law, Jim Neal and a great nephew, Shayne Riley.

He is survived by his wife Sharon DeJaynes, of the home, three sons; Jon Boy DeJaynes, of the home, Edward DeJaynes, and his wife Shana, of Warsaw and Daniel DeJaynes and his wife Lana, of Stover, Missouri, five grandchildren; Jayla Wilson, Justin Wilson, Samuel DeJaynes, Jazmine Jones and Zechariah Jones, three sisters; Charlene Martin and her husband Ron, of Independence, Missouri, Carol and her husband Marshall, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Connie Arnold, and her husband Don, of Raymore, Missouri, one brother, John DeJaynes and his wife Ruthie, of Kearney, Missouri, his father-in-law, Alfred Smith, of the home, numerous nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Archie A. DeJaynes will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the New Home Baptist Church, in Warsaw. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Reser Funeral Home, in Warsaw. Burial and Military Rites will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday at the White Chapel Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Therapy Center or the Benton County Food Pantry c/o the funeral home.
