Ora K. Bender, 92 Harrisonburg

Ora Magdalene Kremer Bender, 92, passed away January 20, 2014 at Oak Lea Nursing Home. Mrs. Bender was born on September 16, 1921, in Milford, Nebraska and was the daughter of the late William and Malinda Miller Kremer. In early years, she worked as a school teacher and later taught sewing classes for Singer Sewing Machine Company. She was an active member of the Park View Mennonite Church where she participated in the sewing circle for many years. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilt making. On November 23, 1947, she married Daniel H. Bender who survives. Also surviving are four children, Debra Hope Bender and husband Clifford Stewart, Cape Coral, Florida; Judy Lorayne Yoder and husband J. Byard, Manheim, PA; Evan D.H. Bender, Linville; Eric Kremer Bender and wife LuAnn, Harrisonburg; six grandchildren, Jeremy Byard Yoder, Jonathan Blake Yoder and wife Jonilyn, Joseph Eric Bender, Malinda Joy Bender, Mary Kathryn Bender and Michael Evan Bender. Mrs. Bender was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Holly Ann Bender and her siblings, Kenneth Kremer, Opal Miller, Margaret Roth, Carroll Kremer, Lorne Kremer. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 24, 2014 at 11a.m. at Park View Mennonite Church with Rev. Phil Kniss officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6p.m. until 8 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Daniel and Ora Bender Scholarship Fund at Eastern Mennonite School, 801 Parkwood Drive, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22802.
