George “Fred” Frederick Houle, 82, of Manchester, NH, died January 20, 2014, at his residence, after a period of declining health.

Born in Exeter, NH on May 10, 1931, he was the son of Eldon and Ruby (Harvey) Houle. He resided in the Queen City most of his life.

Fred graduated from Manchester High School Central, Class of 1951, where he excelled in sports. He was drafted by the Boston Braves, but could not accept the offer because he enlisted into the arm forces.

During the Korean War, he served with the United States Air Force.

Early in his career, he was a licensed stockbroker. Later, he was vice-president of sales and marketing with Tetley Tea Company. Until his retirement, he was an ecclesiastical candle salesman with Mack-Miller Candle Company for twenty-five years. Afterwards, he was a greenskeeper and worked in the pro shop at Candia Woods for several years.

An avid golfer he was a member of Intervale Country Club and Derryfield Country Club. He was also active with the Chi Chi Rodriguez Foundation.

He was a longtime communicant of Saint Joseph Cathedral.

A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed the pleasures of family life.

Family members include his wife of fifty-seven years, Elizabeth Anne “Bette” (North) Houle of Manchester; two sons, John C. Houle and his wife, Ann, of Weare and Thomas A. Houle of Manchester; three daughters, Martha E. Houle and her husband, Eyvi Seveinsson, of Washington, DC, Barbi Jo Cloutier and her husband, David, of Manchester; and Donna E. Houle and her husband, Mark Van Kirk, of McLean, VA; grandchildren, Bradley, Sarah, Abigail, Molly, Andre, Katherine Ann, Caroline, and Isabella; a great-grandson, Jaxon; two sisters, Mary O’Dell and her husband, Gerard, of Manchester and Ann Zaleski and her husband, Frank, of CT; a brother, David Houle of Manchester; several nieces and nephews.

Services: Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, corner of Concord Street, Manchester, NH.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10AM in Saint Joseph Cathedral, Pine Street, Manchester.

Burial will take place in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers,memorial donations may be made to the Monastery of the Precious Blood, 700 Bridge Street, Manchester, NH 03104.
