Peter Michael Miller, Sr. 1943----2014

Peter Michael Miller, Sr., 70, Atchison, Kansas, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Atchison Medicalodge Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 23, 2014, at 2:30 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, January 23rd from 1:30 until 2:30 P.M. at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted. The body will be cremated following services with burial to be held at a later date.

Peter was born November 2, 1943, in Horton, Kansas, the son of Leonard J. and Gertrude (Gronniger) Miller. He attended school in Bendena, Kansas, and then the Catholic Elementary Schools in Atchison, Kansas graduating from Maur Hill Prep School.

He and Patricia L. Jolly were united in marriage on January 14, 1974, in Atchison, Kansas. Mrs. Miller preceded him in death on December 11, 2011.

He served in the United States Air Force from February 7, 1963 until his Honorable Discharge on February 6, 1967.

Peter served as a firefighter and later was employed with Kansas Power and Light Company. He then became employed with Mt. Saint Scholastica as a security officer and later as an aide in the laundry department until his retirement.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, formerly serving as an usher and a member of the Kennedy Callers, as well as a choir member.

Peter was an avid sports fan and earlier in life played a lot of baseball. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.

Survivors include three daughters, Jeanette Holmes, State of Texas, Sarah R. (Sean) Kelley, Atchison, KS, Pamela L. VanWagoner, Atchison, KS, two sons, Peter Daniel Holmes, State of Washington, Peter M. Miller, Jr., Atchison, KS two sisters Mary Darlene Green, Atchison, KS, JoAnn Miller, Atchison, KS, four brothers, Ronnie Miller, Topeka, KS, Jack Miller, Overland Park, KS, Bill Miller, State of Arkansas, Terry Miller, State of Texas, and nine grandchildren.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
