Norma Garcia Avery

Norma Garcia Avery passed away peacefully in her home on January 15, 2014 after a three and a half year battle with breast cancer. Norma was born September 13, 1956 in New Braunfels Texas to Felix Garcia Jr. and Antonia Trevino Garcia.

She graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1973 and attended Jackie Nell Secretarial College in Austin, TX. She married James Ray Avery, April 12, 1975 and had one child, Laura. Norma went back to school after 20 years and graduated from Texas State University, suma cum laude with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration in 2006 while working full time and caring for a family.

Norma became an employee of CenterPoint Energy (formerly Entex) at the age of 17 and remained loyal to the company for 40 years. She held several positions throughout the years and ended her career as an Executive Assistant.

Norma was a caring and generous woman who always put the needs and care of others above her own. She took great pride in caring for her family and her home.

She is survived by her daughter Laura Leigh Avery, James Avery, her mother Antonia Trevino Garcia Zuniga, brothers Richard, Edward David & wife Yolanda Garcia. Norma was well loved and will be greatly missed.

A rosary service will be held Monday January 20, 2014 at 7:00pm at Doeppenschmidt Funeral home. Mass will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in New Braunfels, TX Tuesday January 21, 2014 at 10:00am.

The family asks that In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, to Any Baby Can of San Antonio or to a charity of your choice.
