Donald L. Lax

Donald L. Lax, 75, of Athens, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Pickering House, Lancaster, after a brief illness. Born August 28, 1938 in Nelsonville, he was the son of the late Howard and Evelyn Lax.

Don was a Life Member of the Nelsonville Elks Lodge BPOE#543, where he enjoyed playing cards and spending time with many of his good friends. He also enjoyed singing, fishing, camping and sports. He dearly loved his family and friends who will always miss “uncle Don” and his infectious smile and laugh. He will be especially missed by his river family of friends where he spent many summers sharing his wonderful sense of humor.

In addition to his wife Karen Bridge Lax, Don is survived by his son Donald W. Lax of Florida; daughter, Tracey (Marc) Wiley of Columbus; 7 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Betsy) Lax of Florida and Mike (Ruth) Lax of Nelsonville; sister, Ruby Groce of Nelsonville; mother-in-law, Helen Bridge of Athens; sister-in-law Rhonda (Dave) Hughes and brother-in-law Dave Bridge both of Athens and several nieces and nephews who were very special.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Jackie Fetherolf; brother-in-law, Jerry Groce and his father-in-law, John Bridge

A memorial service will be held 1 PM, Friday, January 17, 2014 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, Ohio 45764 with Rev. Garry Dickerson officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends and family may call Thursday from 4-8 PM with an Elk Service at 7:30, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Pickering House, 282 Sells Rd., Lancaster, Ohio 43130; Nelsonville Elks Charities, P.O. Box 66, Nelsonville, Ohio 45764; or any other charity of choice.
