Mary Alice Devine

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the Greater St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, 633 Thomas Kate Road, Dorchester, South Carolina, with the Reverend Henry Gabe, III, pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the church's cemetery in Dorchester, South Carolina.

Mrs. Mary Alice Weiters-Devine, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Perry (Mary Boyd) Weiters, was born in Dorchester, South Carolina on September 9, 1947, and entered into eternal rest, January 5, 2014 at the Prince George’s Hospital Center, Cheverly, Maryland after an extended illness.

She grew up in St. Paul Community of Harleyville and attended the public school system, where she graduated from Jenkins Hill High School in 1966.

At an early age, she attended and continued to serve as a faithful member of The Greater St. Paul AME Church until she became ill.

In March, 1968, she was joined in Holy Matrimony with the Johnnie Devine Sr. of Holly Hill South.Carolina. This union was blessed with four sons.

Preceding her in death are: her parents, her husband, her sister, Mrs. Lois Capers and her brother Mr. James Weiters.

Her survivors are her four sons, Dwight(Margaret) Devine of District Heights, Maryland., Johnnie Devine, Jr. and Christopher Devine, both of Dorchester, South Carolina and Brian Devine, of Hyattsville Maryland. with whom she stayed until her passing; her step daughter, Cynthia(Gregory) King of Santee, South.Carolina. ; eight grandchildren, Soporiadena Wade, Antonio Wade, Kendrick Furtick, Tierrah Devine, Jakeerah Devine, whom she raised, Allyson Devine, Arielle King, and Armani King; a daughter-in-law, Angela Devine of St. George South.Carolina.; six sisters-in-law, Mrs. Beneva Lambright and Mrs. Patricia Devine, both of Holly Hill, South.Carolina,  Mrs. Mazie Mclean, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania., Ms. Cora Devine, of Fort Washington, Maryland., Mrs. Earnestine McNeil, of Forestville, Maryland., and Mrs. Evelyn Weiters, of St. George South.Carolina.; four brothers-in-law, Stephen Devine, of Upper Marlboro Maryland., Nathaniel Devine, of Fort Washington Maryland., Daniel Devine, of Holly Hill South.Carolina., and Michael McNeil, of Forestville Maryland.; one aunt, Mrs. Martha Gordon, of Savannah Georgia., one uncle, Mr. Daniel Boyd, of Harleyville South.Carolina.; and special friends Carletta Jennings, Abigail James, and Gloria Boyd, all of Harleyville South Carolina., and Alfred Calvin, of St. George South Carolina, all of her special friends who have been supportive throughout her life.; and a mass of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Friends may call at the residence of  Mrs. Mearle Ann Devine, 160 Eva Lane, Holly Hill, South Carolina, Ms. Carletta Jennings, 416 Spring Branch Road, Harleyyville, South Carolina and at the funeral home.
