David George Colby

U.S. Veteran

Colby, David George: Born into this life on March 28, 1921. Entered into eternal life January 4, 2014. Dave Colby, age 92, Army veteran, beloved husband of Mary Virginia Colby (nee Forry); loving father of Mary B. (Mike) Paul, David F. Colby, Mary Pat (Lee) Kersten, Tom Colby, Cathy (Mark) Pellish, Anna (Mike) Carmody, and Cindy (Paul) Bernacchi; amazing grandfather of 17 and great-grandfather of 10. Dave lived life to the fullest as a husband, father, R.R. Donnelly man, musician, and car-guy. He was passionate about his family and music and cars. Raised in the Bridgeport neighborhood, he raised his family in suburban Chicago in the house he designed and built. He was creative and ahead of his time – always building or fixing anything and everything. He played the piano from a very young age and proved to be a natural musician, mastering the accordion, the double b-flat bass, and other instruments throughout his life. He was well known for his crazy ‘papa-faces’ and the tradition lives on with his kids and grandkids. Anyone who met him knew him for his generosity, his gratefulness, and his incredibly strong will. Visitation at the Tews Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Hwy. Homewood, Friday January 17, 2014 from 3:00pm to 9:00pm. Prayers Saturday January 18, 2014, at 9:15am from the funeral home to St. Joseph Church, 17951 Dixie Hwy. Homewood. Mass 10:00am. Interment St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to Marian Fund at Marian Catholic High School (marianchs.com)Chicago Heights, IL 60411 would be appreciated. www.tewsfuneralhomes.com or 708-798-5300
