Priscilla Faye Bowman entered heaven at the age of 97 on December 21, 2013. Mom was surrounded by her children and grandchildren in her final days in Eureka, California. Pat, as everyone called her, was born at home to Stanford and Hallie Conn in Allendale, Missouri on a family farm November 28,1916. She attended schools, church and worked in Allendale before moving to Pueblo, Colorado. She grew up during the great depression which had a profound effect on her. She was always very appreciative of what life had given her. It was in Pueblo she met her husband Casey Bowman. After World War II ended, they moved to Concord, California for a short stay and then to Humboldt County where they married in Fortuna, in 1946. It was on Cathy Hill near Miranda, that they built their first home and started a family. Several years later they moved to Salmon Creek were they had a small working ranch. Mom loved to work in her flower gardens and spent the summers picking berries and canning vegetables and fruit they had grown. Mom spent many years as a girl scout and cub scout leader. As a scout leader, she taught many students how to cook, can preserves, grow vegetables, flowers and sew clothes. She planned camping trips and many outdoor activities as the club’s "mom". She loved to travel and learn about foreign cultures and always eager to plan the next trip. She owned and operated the Chuck Wagon Cafe restaurant in Miranda for several years. Her hamburgers, fries and maple bars were the best in the area. After her husband of 48 years died, she moved to Redway and helped her daughter at the Redway Laundromat. At the age of 86 she had heart surgery and a few years later retired. Ten years later customers still remember her and how she helped them with their laundry. Mom enjoyed attending sporting events that both her children and grandchildren played and she loved watching baseball on television. Her last year of life was spent living in Santa Rosa at her granddaughter Katie's elder care home, The Orchard Inn. She enjoyed living there and would kid others that she would get married and try living on her own again. She was always sharp witted and kind and one of the caregivers’ favorites! Her family was the most important thing to her. She never missed a birthday or anniversary and loved to entertain for all the holidays when the family would get together. She always said she was too busy to join philanthropic organizations but she supported them all. She was a member of the Redway Baptist church, where she attended church and enjoyed her many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters Carmela and Carmetia, a brother George and a son Edwin Myers of South Carolina. She is survived by her children, a daughter, Roberta Cruz of Big Bear, California; a daughter Pamela Van Meter and husband John of Redway; a son Conrad Keith Bowman and wife Trudy of Piercy; a daughter Linda Prestwood and husband Ron of Vancouver, Washington; a son Kenneth Bowman and wife Donna of Miranda, and a daughter Sherrie Finney of Las Vegas, Nevada. She also leaves 23 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her Brother Milton Conn of Weott and his best friend and partner Vie Thomas. Casket bearers will be her six grandsons: John Moschetti, Matt Moschetti, Brett Van Meter, Zack Bowman, Jason Bowman and Justin Bowman. Those wishing to say good bye may visit her at Goble’s Mortuary, 560 12th Street, Fortuna, California on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 12:00 to 4:30.
